The Final Product & Review

This recipe starts off quite simple to make as it is a very basic cake recipe that is using mostly prepared ingredients. I highly recommend having all of the tools that it asks for in the original recipe as it will make this process a lot easier. I did not have the proper amount of sized baking pans nor the cookie cutter so I had to work around with what I had. It took each of the cakes about 20 minutes to bake and about 20 minutes to fully cool down.

The assembly process was not too difficult but did require a lot of shaping as I did not have the precise cutting tools to make a uniform circle. Overall, it does take a bit more time than I had thought it would since it took me almost 2 hours from start to finish. The cakes themselves are extremely moist and not overly sweet. The kids loved hearing the surprise of the popping candy as they took a bite. I find these to be a great idea for any 4th of July celebration and I will be making more for our barbecue party next week!

Keep in mind that every month all of you get to decide which recipe goes into the next Pinterest Test Kitchen, so keep an eye out for next month's poll! If you are new to this series, every month I post a poll with four recipe options from my various Pinterest recipe boards. After one week of voting, the recipe with the most votes will be tested and reviewed by the end of the month. This helps me try something new and put my Pinterest recipes to good use.
