Recycled Globe
{Earth Day Craft}

9:00 AM

Happy Earth Day!

To celebrate today, our homeschooling group is having a themed party and I decided to come up with a simple craft that kids of all ages could do. Most importantly, I wanted to incorporate some recycled materials to truly celebrate one of the bigger messages of Earth Day. Keep reading if you want to see how to make this simple craft.

What You'll Need:

- Colored pencils/markers
- Scissors
- Glue
- White construction paper
- Leftover felt or any scrap materials in your art supplies
- Stencil sheet {optional}

How To Make This Project:

Step 1:
Start by drawing your globe shape and then sketching in the land masses of your choosing, you may freehand this step or use a stencil to trace with. This is where we also added in some nature stencils and the title of our project.

Step 2:
Once you have your land masses sketched out, begin to cut out random pieces of the green felt. Since we are using scrap felt in order to recycle/reuse, we were going for more of a collage look to it. We also do not care if there are small open gaps of white, we aren't going for perfection with this project. If you don't have scrap green felt then go through your scraps and see what you can use in order to go with the recycle/reuse idea with this project.

Step 3:
Once you have the land covered, begin to fill in with a blue material of your choosing. Again, we used scrap felt for this and cut it into random parts to fit in the gaps we had.

Step 4:
Once the globe is done, begin to trace the stencils with a marker to give them more of a bold/shading look.

Step 5:
Once the tracing is done, take your colored pencils and color in the stencils to your preference. Allow to fully dry before displaying!

I hope you enjoyed a peek into what our homeschooling group is doing to celebrate Earth Day. Feel free to customize this to best fit your needs but I highly suggest trying to use some scrap/recycled materials to really encourage one of the biggest meanings behind what we can do for our planet in this day and age.
