Super Bowl 50 Craft!

In honor of the upcoming Super Bowl, I wanted to share a craft that our classroom is doing in order to celebrate for the upcoming game. This banner was in part my children's idea and they completed the majority of this craft on their own. I strongly encourage you to let this inspire you to create your own banner as this is simple enough to expand upon and make entirely your own. I hope you enjoy this craft and that you give it a try!

What You'll Need:

- Brown felt
- White felt
- Yarn or string
- Foam sheets, any colors
- Scissors
- Hole puncher or glue
- Marker (optional)

What To Do:

Step 1:
Begin by cutting out a football shape from the brown felt. You can either trace the outline with a marker on the felt or you can freehand cut, depends on your skill level or preference.

Step 2:
Cut out the football shape and trim any edges to achieve the shape you prefer.

Step 3:
On the white felt, cut out the laces for the football and any other decor you want. Again, you may either trace the outline with a marker or freehand. Line up your white felt onto your football shape to determine how long and wide to make each part.

Step 4:
Cut out the long strips to place on the outer edge of the football. Glue or attach through the football using the hole puncher to pull the fabric through. My children used the glue method for this entire project but you may use whatever method you prefer.

Step 5:
Attach the thinner line about an inch or two from the top of the football, lay down the 8 smaller strips to form the lace line on the ball. If you are using glue then simply glue each piece down. If using a hole punch then thread through each hole you make to achieve the more stitched look.

Step 6:
On the foam sheets, begin to cut out the shapes to form the words you will use on your banner. My children decided to make the phrase "Super Bowl 50!!" so they used a marker to outline each letter for the banner. They did every other letter a different color as well. Now you can use the foam sheets that are the team colors you are rooting for, a combination of the two teams playing, or any colors you prefer.

Step 7:
Measure out your string/yarn to the length you need in order to hang and display your banner on the wall. Begin attaching letters and the football shape to your banner, either with glue or by making a hole punch at the top of each item and threading through the string/yarn. Keep it as centered as possible and for our design, we placed the football in the middle of the phrase.

The Final Product:
Once you've completed your banner, give it time to fully dry if you've used glue. Then hang onto the wall using a tack on each side to allow to hang slightly. If your football shape causes any sagging, then you can provide more support by taping it around the supporting yarn/string or by providing an extra tack in the center.

Thanks for checking out our latest classroom craft project! In the comments below, let me know which team you are supporting for the upcoming Super Bowl.

As always any requests, questions, or comments are greatly appreciated. Talk to you soon!
