Scarecrow Craft

9:00 AM

This is a very simple craft that can be done with any age. I would recommend changing up the way you attach some of the materials depending on the age group. As in, a hot glue gun would be best to use for the entire project but if you want younger children to participate on their own, then I'd stick with tape and glue. So for today, I am doing the basic method for this craft. Enjoy!

What You'll Need:

- Tape, glue, or hot glue gun
- Popsicle sticks, any color will do
- Large googly eyes
- Yellow pipe cleaners, I used 3
- Leaf cutout
- Black felt
- Scissors
- Sheer ribbon, any color will do

Step 1:
Begin by lining up about 10 Popsicle sticks onto the felt, use this to measure how much felt you need to cut. The felt will be used as a support for the sticks so don't leave any extra hanging off. Cut around the sticks, set your felt aside.

Step 2:
Glue down the sticks, be sure to attach them very well so use glue on the felt and on the back of the sticks. You may use tape as well, although it may be more difficult to fully stick to the felt.

Step 3:
With the extra felt, cut out a triangle shape for the scarecrow's hat, you can shape this into whatever shape you want though. Once it's cut out, simply attach with glue to the stick "face" that you have made.

Step 4:
Take the sheer ribbon and measure out enough to cover the bottom portion of the hat, cut it and then glue onto the hat. Shape the leaf to the size you prefer and glue either under the ribbon or on top of.

Step 5:
Take your pipe cleaners and cut into strands of hair, the length is entirely up to you and how much your felt can support.

Step 6:
Turn the scarecrow face over and lay down either glue or tape strips in order to attach hair, place around the face so it can be seen.

Step 7:
Turn the face back over and glue down 2 googly eyes.

Step 8:
Take any scrap felt and cut out a small triangle shape for the nose, attach with glue.

Step 9:
Once everything has dried, draw a mouth on the scarecrow face or use felt to make a smile. Allow the scarecrow to dry over night before handling, as it can be quite weak until the glue sets. You can either hang this up on it's own or attach a string to the top to hang from.

I hope you enjoyed this fall/Halloween craft idea!
